Green Day and Blink-182; You want some of this Punk?
Green Day has nailed the top spot on the Billboard 200 with “21st Century Breakdown.”
Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool’s latest album sold over 215,000 copies in a weekend to become No. 1.
Green Day front-man Armstrong feels the album has taken the trio to a new level of creativity. He compared the release to The Rolling Stones ‘Let It Bleed’ and ‘Exile on Main Street’ in Rock Sound magazine.
Green Day topped the charts in 2004 with “American Idiot.” The band’s fans, known as the “Idiot Club” are anxiously awaiting the group’s tour which kicks off in the beginning of July.
Fans will be able to preview Green Day’s trip on Good Morning America this Friday, May 22, in Central Park.
Punk fans will be treated to another favorite this summer as Blink-182 has joined forces once again and will hit the road starting in late July.
Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker and Tom DeLonge announced a reunion at the Grammys after a four year Blink drought.
In 2004, Blink-182 toured with No Doubt. Gwen Stefani and No Doubt are on tour now through the beginning of August.
Back in 2002, the Pop Disaster Tour was a battle of sorts between Green Day and Blink-182.
Scott Mervis, the Weekend Editor of the Post-Gazette called the tour in 2002, “a battle of bratty punk heroes.”
Although the two popular threesomes won’t be sharing the same stage this summer, punk rock fans will get the chance to checkout both tours.
Green Day will start and end the United States portion of their tour in Los Angeles, California.
