Week 1 College Football Notables
To the shock and dismay of many Sooner football fans, Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford will spend the next several weeks on the sideline watching his team play.
Bradford suffered a shoulder sprain in Saturday’s loss to BYU.
Last years Heisman winner wanted to pull an Archie Griffin and double his Heisman pleasure, but that is no longer going to happen.
Oklahoma will look to Landry Jones to keep the team on course. Jones is not only named after former Dallas Cowboy Coach Tom Landry, but he is the nephew of former QB Danny White.
Sooners fans pray this will reflect on his playing ability.
Speaking of playing ability, Cinderella doesn’t play QB for Syracuse.
Former Duke point guard Greg Paulus was named the starter by ‘Cuse Head Coach Doug Marrone when he showed up to visit.
Paulus didn’t show up Saturday going 9 of 31 for 167 yards with 1 TD and a pick.
Penn State will look forward to showing the “feel good story” a look at Happy Valley.
Maybe the Dean Dome wasn’t so bad after all Gregy Poo.
And bad is what happened to Nicholls State on Saturday as Air Force assaulted them with a 72-0 bashing.
The score at halftime was 45-0.
One website said that Nicholls State was looking forward to next weeks home game against Duquesne.
Colonels fans may want to opt out of that game for a trip to Jacksonville State to watch their women’s soccer team!
Let’s Not Be Blount
Oregon RB LeGarrette Blount called Boise State DE Byron Hout to apologize for cold cocking him in the jaw after last Thursday night’s game.
Hout went down to the ground immediately following the blow. The defensive end had brushed Blount’s shoulder and barked at him in passing before the punch came.
Does Blount apologize if he doesn’t get caught on tape in front of millions of Americans assaulting Hout?
The water cooler conversations on Friday were supposed to be about what everyone was doing for Labor Day Weekend not about a knockout punch after a football game. I saw the punch on two computers at work, none of which were my own.
Oregon Ducks Head Coach Chip Kelly suspended Blount for the remainder of the season. Blount will not lose his scholarship and be allowed to practice with the team, but will not be able to play in any games including a potential bowl game.
Why is he still practicing with the team if he will never play again?
If Blount did this on campus during a non-football event, he would be kicked out of school.
Why does he get to not only keep his scholarship but practice with the team?
I guess we see once again that most bigtime athletes live by a different set of rules than the rest of us!
Very sad.
Week Two of Can’t Miss College Football 2009
College football should be as exciting as ever this fall. Here is a look at the top college game for the second week of 2009.
Week 2
USC Trojans @ Ohio State Buckeyes
Saturday, September 12, 8pm, The Shoe, Columbus, Ohio
USC Preview
True Freshman QB Matt Barkley guided the Trojans to a 56-3 trouncing of San Jose State in Week 1 of the season. Barkley’s numbers were impressive 15/19 for 233 yards through the air and one touchdown. Joe McKnight scored 2 TD’s on his way to picking up 145 yards on the ground. McKnight had a 54 yard burst for a score in the 3rd Quarter.
USC will have to stick to their game plan which will include keeping Terrelle Pryor from using his feet to bail his Buckeye’s out.
Offensively, the Trojans will try to exploit their opponent with speed.
Ohio State Preview
After last years embarrassing loss to the Trojans, the Buckeyes will look to their leader Sophomore QB Terrelle Pryor, to perform better than he did in Week 1.
Pryor threw for only 174 yards on a 14/21 day that also saw him throw a pick. He ran for 30 yards and another score which will concern the Trojan defense.
RB Boom Herron added 72 yards and 1 score on the ground for Ohio State.
The Buckeyes defense will be the difference for their team if Ohio State pulls out a victory.
Rodriguez Answers Media About Practice Violations

Reports are in that say Michigan Wolverine Head Coach Rich Rodriguez became emotional when he started talking about the perception he doesn’t care about his players while defending accusations his teams have violated NCAA practice time rules.
“That is disheartening,” he said as he paused to think about his situation with a number of cameras turned on him at the press conference.
Even more disheartening is the fact that his team finished a pathetic 3-9 last year including their season ending pummeling to rival Ohio State, 42-7.
If the team was over practiced, they surely underachieved.
Former players allege the time the Wolverines spent on and off the field in 2008 and 2009 exceeded the time limits set by the NCAA.
Big Ten officials are investigating any claims of wrongdoing.
Rodriguez suggested the complaints were an attempt to sabotage his efforts in building the program.
Former Wolverines offensive lineman Justin Boren transferred to play for the Buckeyes during the 2009 season. He sat out 2008 to switch programs.
Evidently one Michigan player felt the situation was bad enough to join the team hated most by maize and blue fans.
It would be tragic if sanctions are placed on Rodriguez after his attempt to cheat.
One thing is for sure, he can stop whining until November 21st when the rest of Wolverine fans will join him after another loss to the Buckeyes.

Week One of Can’t Miss College Football 2009
College football should be as exciting as ever this fall. Here is a look at the Top college games for the first week of 2009.
Week 1
Oregon Ducks @ Boise State Broncos
Thursday, September 3, 10:15pm, Bronco Stadium, Boise, Idaho
Oregon Preview
LeGarrette Blount ran for over 1000 yards in 2008 for the Ducks and will try to do the same in 2009. Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli accounted for almost 2500 yards and 23 touchdowns to lead Oregon. On defense they return secondary standouts Walter Thurmond III, and a jacked-up style hitter in T.J. Ward.
Boise State Preview
The Smurf turf or Blue Turf should be kind to the Bronco offense and QB Kellen Moore. With three key returning players to a defense that was No. 3 in pass efficiency in 2008, Boise State will look to make some BCS noise. DE Ryan Winterswyk and CB Kyle Wilson are legit All-America candidates.
Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Virginia Tech Hokies
Saturday, September 5, 8pm, Georgia Dome, Atlanta, Georgia
Alabama Preview
And the defense shall lead you. This will be the philosophy of the 2009 version of the Crimson Tide. DT Terrence Cody will lead the Alabama defense as they return nine starters. Good luck trying to run on this group! Keep moving the chains and throwing the ball to WR Julio Jones will be the focus of the Bama offense for 2009.
Va Tech Preview
Free Safety Kam Chancellor, OLB Cam Martin and DE Jason Worilds will be the key to defensive success for Va Tech as the Hokies return 7 starters. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor will be a threat to run and pass the football. Thousand yard rusher Darren Evans will provide Taylor with a partner to punish opposing teams.
